As a news and sports photographer I seldom need a backpack but I have found myself on assignments where the backpack would come in very handy. I had to do an outdoor assignment where I hiked about 7 miles round trip up to the waterfall at the top of the Feather River. It rained all day and the rotation backpack would have been a great benefit with its rain cover and ability to access camera equipment without having to take the entire backpack off. Just last week I could have used it. I was hunting tarantulas on Mt Diablo and all the shooting was on the ground - I could have used the rotating belt pack feature for changing lenses, knowing that I wasn't going to bring home a tarantula with me.

As a newspaper photographer, most of the time we drive our car to the shooting location which has all of the gear in our trunk. If I had to be away from my gear for an extended period of time like walking or some other physical activity I can see using the rotation360 backpack. Like on a ski assignment where I need to balance down the slopes and start and stop constantly, the rotating beltpack would be a great benefit. I would put my extra jacket or layers in the top compartment, or extra lenses if needed. On stories like cattle drives I'd be on a horse sometimes going out for an entire day - and the top of the backpack could store jackets, food, water etc while I could still ride a horse but swing the bottom part around if I need to shoot. On news stories like floods the backpack would allow me to be mobile getting in and out of boats and still be able to shoot by swinging the beltpack to the front of my body.

As a bag scientist, no one really wants to take off their backpack everytime they need to get something out of their backpack, like a camera or lens. It's really a hassle. That is one reason why we created the Rotation360 backpack, so that the photographer can immediately access equipment without taking the backpack off. As a designer, this is certainly the most difficult and complex backpack that I have ever worked on, with so many features an owners manual is needed. If you take the time to study the features and to practice rotating the belt pack around your body, then I think any photographer can understand the benefits of immediately accessing lenses and other accessories. Honestly, we did not know if this concept was possible. We had an idea, but turning an idea into a physical product can be very difficult, especially in the case of the rotation360. The concept is so radical, that we are hoping to receive e-mails from photographers with comments and suggestions.
